Family portraits are one of the many wonderful ways you can show your family how much you love them. Childhood development experts report that it is really important to show a family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of that family unit. A photographer’s job is to create and make the image look like a safe holding space for kids where they are safe and protected. Kids get it on a really simple level.

My family portrait is precious to me. Throughout the life of my family we have tried to update our family portrait every 3 to 5 years or with every new addition or major change to the family. It's not easy getting everyone together, choosing flattering clothing for the location and individual member of the family, agreeing on a date and time. I can say though that it is worth it. I would not trade my family portraits for anything in the world. Don't forget to include your four footed loved ones in some of your family portraits. You will love having those memories someday when they are gone.
