All About Darby's Dancers Special Needs Class at UDA
Darby’s Dancers is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a performing arts opportunity to children with special needs at no cost to their parents. This program was founded by Patrick and Valerie Jones of Huntsville, Alabama in memory of their daughter, Darby Emma Jones (1999-2013). For more information please visit Darby's Dancers National Website.
Utah Dance Artists has a place and program for each dancer who walks through our door. Darby’s Dancers supports this mission of inclusion, providing dance classes for children with physical or developmental disabilities such as down syndrome, (ASD) autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, and other developmental delays (including those requiring use of a wheelchair). The goal of this class is to enrich the lives of these children through performing arts participation; providing an opportunity to increase physical and emotional strength, confidence, coordination, and friendships in a safe, structured and nurturing environment.
Utah Dance Artists Darby’s Dancer program also provides teens in our community the opportunity to be a mentor/buddy and provide one-on-one assistance to a special needs dancer throughout the year. Through the charitable contributions of youth volunteers, the Darby’s Dancers director and manager, Utah Dance Artists, local businesses and individuals in our community, we are able to provide weekly dance classes, uniforms, performance opportunities, costumes and more to special needs dancers at no cost to their parents.
